Reading a book using a screen reader

If you use Libby with a screen reader, you can use "Read From Here" mode once a book is open to hear it read aloud.

Mobile steps

Note: If you're using VoiceOver on iOS, you can use the Magic Tap gesture anywhere in the reader to enter or exit "Read From Here" mode. Otherwise, follow the steps below.

To use "Read From Here" mode:

  1. Open a borrowed book in Libby.
  2. Dismiss the navigation.
  3. While in "Page" mode, swipe until you hear "Read From Here button," then activate the button.
  4. While in "Read From Here" mode, swipe to read each section (header, paragraph, etc.) individually. Or, to read continuously, follow the prompts in Libby or change your screen reader settings.

To exit "Read From Here" mode, touch the top-right corner of the screen to access the Exit button.

Desktop steps

To use "Read From Here" mode:

  1. Open a borrowed book in Libby.
  2. Dismiss the navigation.
  3. While in "Page" mode, tab until you hear the "Read From Here" button, then activate it. Or, use the keyboard shortcut Shift + ".
  4. While in "Read From Here" mode, use the arrow keys to read each section (header, paragraph, etc.) individually. Or, change your screen reader's controls to read continuously.

To exit "Read From Here" mode, press Esc or tab to the Exit button.
