Locking content controls using a passkey on another device
To more securely lock content controls in Libby, use a passkey saved to another device. This can be useful if you want to lock down content controls on a child's device or a shared device.
Passkeys can be created in Libby on Android 9+ and iOS 17+.
To lock Libby's content controls using a passkey on another device:

- Open Libby on the device you want to lock.
- Tap Menu
, then Back Up Your Data.
- Tap Create Recovery Passkey.
Note: If this device already has a passkey for Libby, instead tap Manage Passkeys, then Add Passkey. Pick a name for the passkey, tap Next, then tap Create Recovery Passkey. - Select Save on another device.
- Using another device, scan the QR code that appears.
- Select Save a Passkey then Continue.
- Enter your passcode or use Face ID.
- Return to the device you want to lock and tap Done.
- On that device, tap Menu
, then Content Controls.
- Tap Lock With A Passkey.
Note: If this device has multiple passkeys for Libby, select the passkey you just created. - Scan the QR code with your second device and select Sign in with a passkey.
- Tap continue and enter your passcode or use Face ID.
To remove the content controls lock, tap remove this requirement, then scan the QR code with the other device.

- On the device you want to lock, sign in with another Google account. You'll remove it from the device in the last step.
- Open Libby.
- Tap Menu
, then Back Up Your Data.
- Tap Create Recovery Passkey.
Note: If this device already has a passkey for Libby, instead tap Manage Passkeys, then Add Passkey. Pick a name for the passkey, tap Next, and complete any additional prompts. - When prompted to chose a Google account for the passkey, select the account you added in step one.
- Tap Continue.
- Complete any prompts to verify your account.
- Tap Done.
- Tap Menu
, then Content Controls.
- Tap Lock With A Passkey.
Note: If this device has multiple passkeys for Libby, select the passkey you just created. - Complete the prompts to verify your passkey.
- Remove the Google account you added in step one.
To remove the content controls lock:
- Tap remove this requirement on the locked device, then scan the QR code on a device signed in with the Google account from step one.
- Or, add the Google account from step one to the locked device again, then return to Content Controls and tap remove this requirement.
- Or, from an iOS device, sign into the Chrome app with your Google account and enable Chrome in AutoFill & Passwords.
