Locking content controls using a passkey on another device

To more securely lock content controls in Libby, use a passkey saved to another device. This can be useful if you want to lock down content controls on a child's device or a shared device.

Passkeys can be created in Libby on Android 9+ and iOS 17+.

To lock Libby's content controls using a passkey on another device:

  1. Open Libby on the device you want to lock.
  2. Tap Menu Menu, then Back Up Your Data.
  3. Tap Create Recovery Passkey.
    Note: If this device already has a passkey for Libby, instead tap Manage Passkeys, then Add Passkey. Pick a name for the passkey, tap Next, then tap Create Recovery Passkey.
  4. Select Save on another device.
  5. Using another device, scan the QR code that appears.
  6. Select Save a Passkey then Continue.
  7. Enter your passcode or use Face ID.
  8. Return to the device you want to lock and tap Done.
  9. On that device, tap Menu Menu, then Content Controls.
  10. Tap Lock With A Passkey.
    Note: If this device has multiple passkeys for Libby, select the passkey you just created.
  11. Scan the QR code with your second device and select Sign in with a passkey.
  12. Tap continue and enter your passcode or use Face ID.

To remove the content controls lock, tap remove this requirement, then scan the QR code with the other device.

  1. On the device you want to lock, sign in with another Google account. You'll remove it from the device in the last step.
  2. Open Libby.
  3. Tap Menu Menu, then Back Up Your Data.
  4. Tap Create Recovery Passkey.
    Note: If this device already has a passkey for Libby, instead tap Manage Passkeys, then Add Passkey. Pick a name for the passkey, tap Next, and complete any additional prompts.
  5. When prompted to chose a Google account for the passkey, select the account you added in step one.
  6. Tap Continue.
  7. Complete any prompts to verify your account.
  8. Tap Done.
  9. Tap Menu Menu, then Content Controls.
  10. Tap Lock With A Passkey.
    Note: If this device has multiple passkeys for Libby, select the passkey you just created.
  11. Complete the prompts to verify your passkey.
  12. Remove the Google account you added in step one.

To remove the content controls lock:

  • Tap remove this requirement on the locked device, then scan the QR code on a device signed in with the Google account from step one.
  • Or, add the Google account from step one to the locked device again, then return to Content Controls and tap remove this requirement.
  • Or, from an iOS device, sign into the Chrome app with your Google account and enable Chrome in AutoFill & Passwords.
