I missed my hold's pickup window. What happens now?
If you miss your hold initially, you won't lose your place in line and you'll have another opportunity to pick it up.
Here's how hold pickups work:
- The first pickup window opens. When a hold becomes available, you'll get a notification and have 72 hours (3 days) to borrow it.
- The first pickup window closes. If you miss the first pickup window:
- You keep your place in line for the title.
- The available copy of the hold is passed to the next person in line.
- Your hold is automatically scheduled for later delivery and will be active again after 7 days. This rescheduling happens as a one-time courtesy.
- The second pickup window opens. Once the hold is available again, you'll get another notification and have 72 hours (3 days) to pick it up. If you miss the second pickup window, the hold is canceled.
Tips:
- Set up both Hold ready and Hold lapsing notifications to get two alerts for each hold.
- If you want to adjust the amount of time before your hold is active again, you can change its "Deliver After" date by going to Shelf
> Holds. Then, tap Deliver After [Date], adjust the slider, and tap Schedule Hold.
- When your hold becomes active again, it may still be days or weeks until you receive the title. Its availability depends on the lending periods chosen by those with the title currently borrowed, and if others ahead of you on the wait list also decided to deliver their hold later and are waiting for a copy.
