Customizing Libby to meet your needs
Libby honors many device accessibility settings, like larger text sizes, dark mode, color filters, and reduced motion.

Libby's settings and features
Libby also has built-in accessibility settings to make browsing and reading more comfortable. Learn more in the dedicated sections below.
To label the navigation icons (like
and
):
- Tap Menu.
- Under "Settings," select Navigation.
- Turn on Labeled Icons.
To find these settings, go to Menu, then Accessibility (under "Settings").
Then, in the "Effects" section, enable any setting you'd like:
- Reduce Color Variation: Use neutral colors with stronger contrast throughout Libby. Book covers are not affected.
- Reduce Text Variation: Set the text in Libby to a single font weight (semi-bold). You'll also see fewer formatting changes, rarer usage of all caps, and no italics.
- Reduce Motion: Minimize animations used in transitions throughout Libby. If you set this preference in your device settings, Libby will use it automatically.
- Reduce Vibrations (mobile app only): Turn off vibrations or keyboard touch feedback while using Libby. If you set this preference in your device settings, Libby will use it automatically.
To find this setting, go to Menu, then Accessibility (under "Settings").
In the "Timing" section, adjust how long pop-up messages stay visible. By default, pop-up messages in Libby are visible for 3 seconds.
Move the slider right to increase or left to decrease the amount of time pop-up messages stay visible. Move the slider to the left edge to hide these messages altogether.
To change the playback speed in an audiobook, tap
at the top of the screen. Then, choose a preset or drag the "Fine-tune" slider to set a custom speed (0.6–3x).
To change the text size in a book:
- Tap the center of the screen to show the in-reader timeline and options.
- Tap
at the top of the screen. - Drag the "Text scale" slider to change the size of the text.

For a wider range of text sizes, toggle Include accessibility sizes on.
By default, Libby automatically uses the lighting mode your device is set to. So, if your device is in dark mode, Libby's reader will be in dark mode too.
To manually change the lighting in a book:
- Tap the center of the screen to show the in-reader timeline and options.
- Tap
at the top of the screen. - Under "Lighting," select Bright, Sepia, or Dark.

- In a magazine, tap the article button
near the bottom of the reader. - Tap
at the bottom of the article.
- Drag the slider to adjust the text size, or select a lighting setting. Then, tap Save.
