Delivering holds later when you're not ready for them
When a hold becomes available, you have 72 hours to borrow it. If you're not ready to borrow it, you can have it delivered later.
Delivering the hold later preserves your hold on the title and passes the available copy to the next person in line.
Note: If you don't borrow the title during its 72-hour hold pickup window, it will be automatically scheduled for later delivery. Automatic rescheduling happens once per hold. If you don't act on the available hold a second time, the hold will be canceled.
How to deliver a hold later
- Tap Shelf .
- Tap Holds at the top of the screen.
- Tap Deliver Later.
- Use the slider to pick a "deliver after" date. After this date, you'll get the next available copy of the title.
- Tap Schedule Hold.
Keep in mind that the title may not be available until a couple days or weeks after your chosen "deliver after" date. Its availability depends on the lending periods chosen by those with the title currently borrowed, and if others ahead of you on the wait list also decided to deliver their hold later and are waiting for a copy.
Go to Shelf > Holds, tap Deliver After [Date], adjust the slider, then tap Schedule Hold.
Even if you select "Deliver as soon as possible," it may still be days or weeks until you receive the title. The wait depends on both how soon the next available copy is returned and how many others in front of you also delivered their hold later and are waiting for a copy.
